Arles Photo Festival 2025

Text and photos by Hans Hickerson ·

The Arles Photo Festival has a unique flavor. Instead of a single venue, it has some 30 official exhibition and event sites scattered throughout the city and surrounding area. Fortunately however, Arles is small and pedestrian-friendly. As you walk around town your fair experience includes a generous serving of French street life and social theatre staged in crowded streets, restaurants, and cafés.

In addition to photo exhibitions, the festival includes workshops, book prizes, a book fair, portfolio reviews, live music events, film projections, panel discussions, and evening shows in the antique theatre. This year photographer Nan Goldin headlined the event and received the Kering Women in Motion award.
