Gerhard ‘Gerry’ Clausing, Editor, PhotoBook Journal copyright 2023

In June Gerry Clausing became the Editor for PhotoBook Journal (PBJ), the on-line magazine for contemporary photographic book reviews for which he has been reviewing since November 2016. This coincides with his 200th book review for PhotoBook journal, most recently as the Associate Editor for the magazine. He began contributing book reviews for PhotoBook Journal after retiring as a full Professor from University of Southern California (USC).

Clausing earned a Ph.D. in Literature and Linguistics and his undergraduate B.A. in Psychology from University of California, Berkeley, and a Psy.D. from the American Behavioral Studies Institute, California. He completed visual arts studies at Otis Art Institute, Brooks Institute, and Los Angeles Center of Photography (LACP). He has studied with several outstanding photographers and curators, especially Gerd Ludwig, David Alan Harvey, Douglas Kirkland, Mary Ellen Mark, Peter Bialobrzeski, Duane Michals, Julia Dean, Ken Merfeld, Ralph Gibson, Douglas Stockdale, Aline Smithson, Klaus Honnef, and Kristin Dittrich.​​

Clausing’s artwork and photographs have been featured by B&W Magazine, Lenscratch, Black and White Spider Awards, the PhotoPlace Gallery (Vermont), Kiernan Gallery, Julia Dean Gallery (Venice and Hollywood), Perfect Exposure Gallery (Los Angeles), Irvine Fine Arts Center, and Art Basel Miami, among others.

Gerry was born in Germany and resides with his wife in Laguna Beach, California.
